The Ancient Dwelling - Langonet Lake
Langonnet Lake

Around 400 metres from the house down a traffic free lane is Langonnet Lake. The lake has a swimming area with its own beach and a running route with trim trail. The lake can be fished for pike and other coarse fish, permits are locally available

Quimper, the jewel of Finisterre is a 40 minute drive from the house. The shopping is legendary and some of the best food in Brittany can be sampled in the city’s restaurants.

Vannes, the capital of Morbihan is a well preserved medieval city with some of the finest city walls in Europe, top restautants, great shopping and loads to do and see, about 70 minutes from the house.

Concarneau, visit Le Ville Clos a huge Napoleonic edifice in the bay for a truly memorable retail experience! About 50 minutes away.

Oceanopolis, one of Europe’s largest aquariums and a stand-out experience for many of our guests is in Brest. About 1hr 20 minutes.

Lorient, the home of german uboat operations during the war, was extensively bombed by the allies, almost the only building left standing was, you’ve guessed it, the submarine pens! There is a German uboat parked in a car park by the pens which is open for visitors during the summer months. Lorient has all the facilities one would expect from a big city. Around 40 minutes to the centre.

Adventure parks

Adventure parks for families are too numerous to mention but include treetop walking, wild water kayaking, a deer safari, nature parks and many more within a 90 minute radius of the house.

The area has some of the best beaches in Europe and the stretch nearest to the house incorporates the Guidel Plages and L’Amour Plage. This 8 kilometre strip of fine sand and rock pools have some of the best body boarding and surfing conditions in Brittany. Boards, wetsuits and even jetskis are all available for hire. Many beach areas have permanent lifeguard stations. Restaurants and cafes abound in the area. Around 45 minutes from the house.

Further away but still easily accessed is the surfers’ paradise of La Torche. Around 1hr 20 mins.

Local Amenities

Langonnet is 3 minutes by car (or a leisurely stroll around the lake) and has a baker, local small but extensive shop with a good stock of wine and beers, a cafe and one of the best butchers in the region.

Eating out

There are many excellent restaurants and creperies within a 30 minute drive of the house.

Au Gre de Temps, the town’s restaurant serves excellent crepes and moules frites.

L’Auberge de Pont Calleck is set in a spectacular location next to a tumbling stream and serves excellent food at lunchtime and in the evening, and the simple menu of La Table de Morvan in Gourin would rate a Michelin star if it could be bothered to apply for one!

Large supermarket shopping is available in Gourin at around 10 kilometres. Rostrenen has a weekly market (around 15 k) and

Le Faouet has a fortnightly market in and around its spectacular 16th century covered “Halle”.
